As it turns out it's pretty easy to have my stones mounted in jewelry. Whaddayathink?
I had a nice weekend in Pattaya. Friday night, Harvey, Sage and everybody from the nine ball team showed up at Flying Dolphins. It was a fun night. The team now plays for Flying Dolphins, because the club we played for before doesn’t have a pool table anymore. (that’s a long story) I’ve been traveling quite a bit the last week, so it was nice to just hang out at my new place. I did make it out to go and buy a new bed. It’s really close to being as nice as my old one…the sheets are missing a couple hundred thread count, but I’ll survive.
Ya’ know something about Asia that I never talked about is, how thing don’t happen in the way you expect, and sometimes they don’t happen at all. I went to Phnom Penh to get a 90 day Education Visa. To get one I have to go to a Thai Embassy in the capital of any of the neighboring countries. It’s supposed to take two business days. That’s why I went to Singapore, but it was Buddhist Lent (a holiday) the Friday I was there went, so It would take til Monday. So I didn’t get the visa in Singapore. Instead I got another 30 day tourist visa, and that brought me to this week. Last night I left the festivities in Phnom Penh at 11:00 so I could get to the Thai Embassy bright and early, and there I was at 8 AM all my documents in hand ready to apply for my visa. Everything was cool until the lady behind the glass puts a sign up that says “pick up visa Aug 22”. They just arbitrarily added a day to the process. I was already worrying about missing school on Friday and this meant I would miss Monday too. I couldn’t do that, so I flew back to Bangkok today. Now I can make it to class in the morning and I have another 30 days in Thailand. I guess I should be frustrated about it all, but I’m not. I got a visa….just not the one I expected…..nope….I’m not frustrated, I’m just in Asia.
It's visa renewal time again, so I'm off to Phnom Penh tomorrow. Hopefully I'm gonna get a three month Education Visa while I'm there. I made a couple of calls, and got a room reservation at my favorite hotel, and the low down on what's happening in Phnom Penh. I heard they closed Heart of Darkness because some Khmer guy got killed there. Heart is a semi gay late night disco that was always crowded after 2 or 3 AM. It's listed on the US state departments web site as a no-go establishment. It was never my favorite club, but I went there occasionally. Well, cuz Heart of Darkness (or "hot dog" if you're Khmer) is closed, Martini, my favorite club is jumping. That should be entertaining. It's always fun when everybody is hanging out at the same club. I've met more Americans in Cambodia than anywhere else I've been in Asia.
Friday is the Queen of Thailand's birthday, it's a holiday. I don't have class on thursday so I have four days off. That gives me time to move from the house to my new condo down the beach.
It sounds like you girls are really enjoying your girls night. Any pictures?....
It's nice to hear you all had fun at the beach. Hearing about the hotel is a bit sad....It would have been fun if that project had taken off....oh well. This weekend I'm going to move into my new condo in Jomtien. It's a pretty modest place. One bedroom one bath. It is across the street from the beach which is nice. You can even see the ocean from the balcony, if you look around the corner a bit. I'm renting it for six months so I can see if I like it. If I do I can buy it for about 40,000, but I'm not thinking that far ahead yet. Other than that everything is pretty much the same, school is cool, Na is hot.....Mikey's happy.
