Songkran
Well, it’s Thai New Years. The Thai’s celebrate, first with a big spring cleaning then a nationwide water fight. It’s pretty crazy here. Yesterday I went out intending to go to Pattaya, but I only got about 1 kilometer before I gave up. Sitting in a traffic jam with trucks filled with people and buckets of water made me reassess my plans. I was already soaked, but when I started approaching some trucks that were throwing water and baby powder, I decided to turn around and go to Jomtien. Jomtien was more of the same. I eventually took refuge in The Flying Dolphins. I was wet, but at least I wasn’t all covered in powder. So far only like 126 people have died in the Songkran celebration, that’s not so bad when you think about a water fight with 64 million people in it. Most of the injuries come from people falling from trucks or motorbikes. They’ve made a law that stops the water fight at 6:00 PM, because so many people were getting hurt at night. I think I’m going to lay low til 6:00 before I go out today.

it's good to know you are finding time to get yourself wet even in Thailand. (i dont know what that means really - sounds dirty though huh?!)

Welcome to my blog Mo and Maryann. It’s cool you found it and are commenting. Songkran is still going strong. It doesn’t end til the 19th. That when from what I’ve heard the really big water fight takes place. I can’t even imagine what that’s suppose to be like. Maryann asked what the baby powder is about, I really doesn’t understand the whole thing, but the water splashing and all the rest is supposed to be lucky for the person who gets splashed. As for the baby powder, it’s just mischief. Sprinkle baby powder on a wet person, and they are white til they take a shower. No amount of water will rinse it off. All of it is done with an amazing amount of good nature. I’ve watched people walk up to each other and exchange splashes and sprinkles like they were shaking hands. The Thai’s are so amazingly playful. On a serious note the death toll is up to 300 something, so we still have to be pretty careful about it all. Two of the girls from Flying Dolphin got hit on their motorbike yesterday. They both got scraped up, but they’ll be alright.
