My Birthday in Pattaya

Tuesday was my 44th birthday…..Woooohoooo. It was one of the nicest birthdays I ever had. The day was pretty mellow Sage and I spent time hooking up Harvey’s computer system. He’s now set up much like I used to have at Lucerne. He’s got a huge display projected on the wall, with a remote mouse and keyboard. We loaded up a bunch of music…14 gigs worth, and his sound runs through a nice sound system. All in all a very nice system.

That evening we headed out to my favorite restaurant. Star Dice is a quite good restaurant and bar across the street from the beach in Pattaya. It’s right next to the Hard Rock, so I’ve been going there for quite a while. They know me pretty well, in fact they’ve given me a free hat at least five times. I really don’t like the hats they’ve got a plastic inside front that doesn’t feel too good against my bald head, so I always give them away. We sat down to dinner, and got drinks. They had the usual set of singers on stage Thai and Western music. After a while Paew got up from the table, and walked over to the front of the restaurant, and came back with a huge flower arrangement. Chrysanthemums, Roses, and exotic tropical flowers I can’t name…..She is so sweet. Well after that we had a nice dinner, and then the wait staff brought over small plates with little forks, and a large plate with a big plastic knife…..Hmmmm what could be coming next? Enter my birthday cake. Harvey had gone out and bought a cake that day and left it at Star Dice to be served later. Then the band broke out in Happy birthday….Woooohoooo. Of course then they gave me and Harvey a free hat…..what a nice surprise.

Next we went off to my favorite go go bar….It’s my birthday right! We’re pretty popular there. So they knew it as my birthday. I got a lay….I mean Leigh upon arrival. It was a Tuesday night, so it was pretty quiet. Good for me cuz I got lots of attention from all these pretty girls. Then they all sang happy birthday to me for the second time that night. It helped that I rang the bell. [Every bar in Thailand has a bell. Ringing the bell means you want to buy the bar a round of drinks.] By now I’m beginning to get a little buzzed, Then the Tequila came out. After a few rounds of Tequila it was time to go, but first the girls got me to dance with them, and according to Sage I was pretty funny. I thought I was just way too sexy for my shirt. The wonders of Tequila…..

Next we went to a disco called Hollywood….go figure. This place is huge! It’s like a rave Thai style. There were probably a thousand people in there. Harvey had reserved a table front and center so we walked right up to the stage and sat down. One thing about Pattaya disco’s is they are pretty gay. There’s always a bunch of gay guys dancing with each other, and lots of full tables with not a single girl among them, Whatever that doesn’t bother me. The bathrooms……now that can be a problem. They have way to many bathroom “attendants”. If you’re not careful these guys will swarm you as you’re standing at the urinal….one guy will massage your shoulders one guy will massage your calves, and a third guy will rub an ice cold towel under your shirt. Not only that these guys are peepers! As I walked into the bathroom, (I held it as long as I could) three guys came running up to me…..I held up my hands and yelled “back off!”. It was pretty amazing how the three of them stopped dead in their tracks. Anyway I was safe. I went back to the table, and the show began. They had a really good band, and a bunch of dancers it was a great show. We brought along one a couple of the girls from Bubbles to Hollywood, and one of them invited a couple of her guy friends. These guys came up to the table, and put another birthday cake in front of me. I guess the girl that invited them had asked them to pick up a cake on the way. After a while the Two lead singers came to the front of the stage, and said they wanted to wish Mr. Mikey a happy birthday. That was amazing, Then they sang happy birthday, and I blew out the candles on my cake. Sharing my birthday with a thousand people was definitely pretty memorable……What a night!

I sincerely wish there was a pithy, succinct way to describe Tuesday night and my trip as a whole so far...
Suffice it to say my new maxim is-
"What if everything you thought you knew about yourself turned out to be wrong?"
Kapume Kap and Happy Holidays to all.

Happy Birthday Mikey!! Sorry about the tardiness, but I thought it was after turkey day as well!!! I'm REALLY glad you had an awesome time...you deserve it! I miss you a lot guys, and think of you often.

A few Irish blessings for you:
May God grant you many years to live, for sure he must be knowing, the earth has angels all too few and heaven is overflowing...

We drink to your coffin. May it be built from the wood of a hundred year old oak tree that I shall plant tomorrow.

Love you guys!
Jenny
